TROUP COUNTY: Store clerk shot in armed robbery

LAGRANGE, Ga (WRBL) - Troup County Sheriff's Office is investigating the shooting of a store clerk in an armed robbery. The robbery occurred Thursday, March 15th at 11:22 p.m. at the Summit Gas Station.

Sgt. Stewart Smith, Public Information Officer for Troup County Sheriff's Office, says when the deputy arrived at the scene they discovered a 55-year-old store clerk with a single gunshot wound to her right leg.

Sgt. Smith says a second clerk at the location said the robber entered the store and jumped the store counter at which point he began demanding money and fired multiple shots inside the store. They say the victim was airlifted to a Columbus area hospital for treatment.

The second clerk says the suspect was wearing blue jeans, a black jacket, black gloves, and a black mask. One of those shots hit the victim in the leg.

Sgt. Smith says the suspect ran away from the store with an undetermined amount of cash.

Troup County Sheriff's Office says they immediately established a perimeter and even called in K-9 units to search the grounds. They believe the suspect ran away on foot and possibly got into an unknown vehicle.

This case is still under investigation. Troup County Sheriff's Office says if anyone has information regarding this case you are asked to call 706-883-1616 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
