Google is denying President Donald Trump’s claim that the company “rigs” search results to show negative stories about Trump.
The President tweeted in part: “Google search results for “Trump News” shows only the viewing/reporting of fake news media.“
Mr. Trump added that conservative sites are shut out and suggested the activity may be illegal.
He added: “96% of results on “Trump News” are from National Left-wing media.”
Google issued a statement saying: “Search is not used to set a political agenda and we don’t bias our results toward any political ideology.“
“There’s no evidence that there’s any kind of manipulation going on with regards to the president,” says Vice President of Public Knowledge Harold Feld.
“For the President to jump from I don’t like my search results on google this morning to tweeting we need to regulate one of the largest fastest growing most creative companies in the American economy is a bridge too far,” Senator Chris Coons of Delaware.
The President’s claim is based on an article by the conservative outlet “P-J Media”.
Writer Paula Bolyard used another conservative journalist’s media bias chart to assess Google’s search results.
Bolyard admits that her approach was not scientific.
