Two dead following crash on Hwy 80 E. in Macon County, AL

Two people have been identified after following a fatal accident on Hwy 80 East and Sol Brown Road Thursday morning. 

The Macon County Coroner has confirmed them as Derrick Shelton, 39, of Prattville and James Carl McCorvey, 71, of Columbus. 

The wrecked happened at 7:20 a.m. Thursday morning.

McCorvey was killed when the 2017 Nissan Frontier he was driving sideswiped a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse before colliding with a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis.

Police say McCorvey, who not using a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver of the Mercury, Shelton, 39, of Prattville was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado collided with the Nissan after the initial collision. The driver of the Silverado and a passenger in the Mercury were injured and transported to East Alabama Medical Center.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
