Two die in Lee County car crash

Family and friends are grieving the loss of two people who died in a Saturday afternoon crash. 

According to the Lee County Coroner’s office, the accident happened at the intersection of U.S Highway 280 West and County Road 89 South. 

Officials say there were five family members in the vehicle when the driver traveling south on US Highway 280 swerved to miss a vehicle that entered 280 from County Road 89 South. 

Officials say the second driver struck the first vehicle, which caused it to lose control and overturn. Ejecting four of the people of the first vehicle including the driver. The victims ejected were not believed to be wearing seatbelts. 

Officials say 36-year-old Arlo Burton and 5-year-old Armani Burton died from their injuries at East Alabama Medical Center. 

The other three are said to have non-life threatening injuries. Officials say this crash is under investigation.
