Valley police allege suspect shot a man who was with suspect's ex-girlfriend

VALLEY, Ala. (WRBL) - A Valley man is facing Attempted Murder, and other charges after police say he shot a man who was sitting in a vehicle with the suspect's ex-girlfriend.

Tuesday, December 4th, 30-year-old Gartavis Roshade Jackson was arrested by Valley police and charged with Attempted Murder and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle.

Investigators say 4:10 Friday morning on November 20th, Valley officers were called to the 100 block of Greenberry Circle about a person being shot. Officers discovered 40-year-old Maurice Clark of Valley had been shot one time in the shoulder.

Clark told police he was shot while protecting a woman from an ex-boyfriend.  Clark said, officers, he was sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle talking with a female when he heard someone tapping on the passenger window. Clark stated when he looked over, he saw a black male, early to mid-thirties with dread-locks and a brown jacket pointing a pistol at him. Clark says he moved to shield the female as the suspect fired approximately three times into the vehicle. One of the shots struck Clark in the shoulder. Clark was transported from the scene by EAFD EMS to EAMC in Opelika.

Valley Detectives were called to the scene and took over the investigation. Investigators say preliminary information concerning the shooting revealed this was not a random act and the shooter may be an ex-boyfriend of the female in the vehicle with Clark.

Later, officers received information from an anonymous caller stating Jackson was seen in the area of 63rd Street. When officers arrived, they observed Jackson riding in a vehicle on Cleveland Road. The car was stopped, and Jackson was arrested without incident.

Jackson was brought to the Valley Police Department where he was interviewed by Investigators about the shooting. After being questioned, Jackson was processed and then transported to the Chambers County Detention Facility.
