VICTIM IDENTIFIED: Police searching for answers in fatal Columbus shooting

A Columbus homicide detective tells News 3 they are still searching for the person responsible for the murder of Emanul Banks.

On the scene, there are 70 markers across Winston Road and in the front yard of the home located on Winston Road. These markers represent a place where police found shell casings and bullet fragments. 

Police are still searching for answers and exploring the possibility of this murder being connected to shots fired call from Wednesday.

The Muscogee County Coroner’s Office has confirmed this is the 20th homicide in Columbus this year. CPD also confirmed this is the 4th homicide within 100 yards of the location in a Calendar year.

UPDATE: Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley tells News 3 that 18-year-old Emanul Banks has been identified as the victim.

COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) –A Thursday morning shooting may have claimed the life of yet another person in a Columbus neighborhood.

A source tells News 3 an officer heard shots fired in the vicinity of the South Columbus Police precinct.

The shooting happened on the one thousand block of Winston Road. The scene was still active when News 3 arrived at 2:00 a.m.

We’ve heard reports from one source who tells us this shooting was deadly. However, we’re still awaiting official word from authorities.
