2 dead, 3 hurt after shooting in Roanoke


UPDATE 9:33 A.M. – The Emergency Department at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital says it received three patients from the scene of the incident on Campbell Avenue Tuesday morning.

All patients were suffering from gun-related injuries.

One is in good condition, one is in fair condition and the third is in serious condition.

UPDATE: 8:17 A.M. – Two people are dead, and three others are hurt after a shooting in Roanoke.

Police say they believe the shooter is one of the dead.

The shooter is believed to be a current or former employee at one of the nearby transportation companies.

Police say the call came in at 6:08 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police are still on scene to make sure everything is cleared and everyone from both Norfolk Southern and Freight Car America has been evacuated.

Roanoke City’s Police Chief Tim Jones says to News 3 sister station WSLS 10 reporters:

We believe at this point the active shooter took his own life after shooting several people. This is a very large facility and this is an active investigation.

As you can imagine it encompasses numerous acres and several different buildings. Some of the property is Norfolk Southern property some of it is leased by Freight Car America and we are making sure that there are no other threats to personnel or resources on scene


ROANOKE, Va (WSLS 10) – News 3 sister station WSLS 10 is following reports of a heavy police presence near a railway company in Roanoke.

Police and ambulances have been seen coming and going from the scene.

WSLS 10 has a crew on the scene.

Several Roads are blocked as police continue the investigation.
