Dolly Parton dishes on Christmas traditions, Dollywood and dreaming big

TRI-CITIES, TN/VA (WJHL) – Dolly Parton now has one more accomplishment to add to her list after receiving the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at Wednesday night’s CMA Awards.

At the awards show Parton said, “To be receiving the Willie Nelson award … this is an absolute high for me!”

The sassy sequin-adorned songwriter gave the crowd in Nashville a few laughs as she graciously accepted her latest award.

News Channel 11 caught up with the busy songstress for a rare phone interview on Thursday, where she hinted at some future projects.

“Every day I have new dreams,” she said. “So, I’ve got a lot of plans … some TV things, movie things, plays and parks and producing things. I also have a line of makeup and some clothes and stuff done the line.”

“I’ve got dreams all the time that I’d like to see come true while I’m still living and I’m living it to the fullest,” Parton said.

Dolly is in the midst of her “pure and simple” concert tour and getting ready to release her new movie — “Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love”.

Parton also spoke about the growing success of her theme park, Dollywood.

“I had some apprehension with some of my lawyers and some of my business people who thought that I was making a mistake, but I still went on with it and it makes me feel good that I was right about it. It’s all for family and I’m just so happy that it’s worked out. I take a lot of pride in it, but I don’t take it for granted. I’m grateful for it,” Parton said.

The legendary country star also discussed some of her signature Christmas traditions.

“I love to bake cookies with my little nieces and nephews,” Parton said. “I always have a night with my young nieces and nephews and they spend the night with me. I have an elevator in my house and we paint it up like a chimney and I go bring down presents dressed like Santa Claus and just have fun for myself and for the kids. I’m a kid myself at Christmas.”

Dolly said incorporating her biggest hits into her set list is key for any tour.

“You have to your big hits, the ones that people would kill you if you didn’t do … You try to figure out what’s most entertaining. There’s a lot that goes into making even a ‘Pure and Simple’ show, like mine,” she said.

Dolly’s “Pure and Simple” concert tour will be making a stop in Pigeon Forge on Nov. 11, but tickets are already sold out for the event.

There are, however, many more stops planned for Dolly throughout the country. For a full list, follow this link:
