PHENIX CITY, Ala- It’s not too early to begin planning for Christmas for many generous souls in the Valley area. Monday night, Operation Christmas Child kicked off for the Chattahoochee Valley area. Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City hosted tonight’s event. Operation Christmas Child is a program where shoe boxes full of needed necessities are delivered to children.

“One hundred thirty five million children have received a shoe box since 1993. That’s a lot of kids. But that’s only one-third of the children of this world,” said Linda Keown, Collection Center Coordinator for the Operation Christmas Child program.

Along with the supplies, the shoe boxes contain messages of the Gospel in the children’s native languages.
