Phenix City man arrested for allegedly exploiting elderly family member funds

A Phenix City man has been arrested after an investigation into financial exploitation of an elderly person.

The Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department says the incident was reported on January 24, 2018.

20-year-old Wyatt Walters of Phenix City, Alabama was arrested on February 2 and charged with two counts of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly, three counts of Identity theft, and one count Elder Abuse.

Walters was charged as a result of the investigation which revealed the he had financially exploited a family relative of funds without permission, along with failing to provide adequate food and medication to the family relative.

Walters was placed in the Tallapoosa County Jail with a bond of $85,000.

The department’s Criminal Investigative Unit conducted the investigation with the assistance of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).

Investigation is continuing with additional charges expected.
