Police arrest third suspect in March Peachtree Mall murder

COLUMBUS, Ga — Police say officers have finally arrested the last suspect in March’s deadly shooting at Peachtree Mall.

A Columbus Police Department report says 25-year-old Terell McFarland was arrested Friday in connection to the death of 24-year-old Anthony Meredith.

Meredith was found shot in the mall parking lot on March 26 at 7:28 p.m. The report says he was taken to Midtown Medical Center for treatment where he later died.

Sargent Art Sheldon says two other suspects were also arrested earlier this year in connection to Meredith’s death — 23-year-old Tekoa Young and 18-year-old Xzavaien Jones.

In the report, an indictment for the three suspects names them as members of the “Crips” street gang. Investigators say they may have planned to shoot Meredith in retaliation for fellow gang member Christopher Twitty’s murder in November 2015.

No suspect has been identified in Twitty’s case.

Police say in the report Jones was identified as suspect who shot Meredith and he is charged with murder and possession of a gun during the commission of a crime. Jones turned himself in to police in April.

Young and McFarland are both charged with murder.

McFarland’s first court date will be Thursday at 9 a.m.
