Recent poll finds that Trump is under performing with whites, independents in Georgia

Some polls are showing Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump in a virtual tie with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in Georgia. However, a recent Landmarks Communications poll found that Clinton leads Trump by nearly 4% in the Peach State.

The poll, released after the final presidential debate, shows Trump leading Georgia seniors 54% to Clinton’s 40%. Trump is also winning white voters at 66%. Meanwhile, Clinton is carrying 25% percent of the white vote. Vice President of Landmark Communications, Inc. Jordan Fuchs tells News 3 Trump is under performing in the white demographic. In 2012, GOP candidate Mitt Romney carried 71% of white Georgia voters.

“As of right now, unless something disastrous happened for either campaign, I believe the numbers are going to stand.”

And those numbers standing would point to Trump taking Georgia, giving Republicans control of the Peach State for what would be six straight elections.

Fuchs adds that the poll shows Clinton leading Trump among minority voters, 78% to 11%. The poll also shows Clinton picking up 57% of registered independent voters. The poll sampled 600 voters and has a 4% margin of error. Fuchs notes that two weeks out from election day, most voters minds are already made up at this point.
