(WIAT) — Now that both the Democratic and Republican gubernatorial candidates have been solidified, the question remains: will Walt Maddox and Governor Kay Ivey debate?

It seems as though the Maddox campaign has the same question. In a letter to the governor, the Tuscaloosa mayor officially proposed four debates between him and Governor Ivey.

In the letter, Maddox proposed two debates in the standard format on education and economic development, and public safety, health care, and infrastructure. He also proposed two debates in a town hall formats.

UPDATE: Governor Kay Ivey has responded to Maddox’s letter in a statement issued Tuesday:

“Walt Maddox refuses to say if he supports Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, it’s impossible to get a straight answer from him on gun rights, and he’s all over the map on abortion. It seems the person Walt Maddox should be debating is himself.”
