Loved one’s of 53-year-old Joe Akridge are asking for the community’s help to bring him home.  A group gathered outside Akridge’s Columbus home on Valleybrook Road Saturday afternoon for a search party.

Akridge disappeared six weeks ago and is mentally impaired.  Family members said Arkidge was walking to the Dollar General on Amber Drive to get lollipops the last time they saw him.  They said he would walk to that Dollar General at least once a week.

On Saturday, loved ones of Akridge walked his usual route he took to the Dollar General.  They carried signs and passed out flyers with Akridge’s information and picture along the way.

Akridge’s sister, Patricia Koonce, said the past six weeks have been very hard on their family.

“It’s been very painful on us. It’s been constant tears and we just want Joe-Joe home,” Koonce said.

The search party ended with a candlelight vigil at Akridge’s house.

Family members are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Akridge’s location.  If you have seen Akridge or have any information regarding his location, please call Columbus Police.
