UPDATE:3/8/23 5:30 a.m. Columbus police are continuing to investigate a double homicide on Clay Street that happened Tuesday morning.

Ronisha McCaskey, 51, and Juantonja “Tonja” Richmond, 52, were pronounced dead at 12:15 p.m. on March 7, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan. They both died of multiple gunshot wounds.

There bodies were discovered in the front yard of a home at the end of Clay Street with McCaskey lived.

Police are not releasing much information about the shooting deaths.

Dr. Xavier McCaskey, the ex-husband of Ronisha, talked to WRBL late Tuesday afternoon as investigators were completing their work on the scene.

“This gun violence has got to stop,” he said. “Innocent people are getting murdered, losing people’s loved ones. I will never see her again. I will never see that pretty smile she had. I will never get to talk to her.”

Xavier called the person who did this a “coward.”

“A coward murdered two innocent women and you have taken 15 kids mothers from them,” he said. “A senseless act. Two women who didn’t bother anybody. Didn’t mess with anybody. Worked from home. Ronisha owned a third of my company. Just took a beautiful soul away from the world.”

Here is what one neighbor, Tennilly Miller, had to say.

“I heard around seven gunshots,” Miller said. “It was like boom, boom … boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.”

Miller lost her son Tamareious Miller to a Christmas Eve shooting in the Bunker Hill neighborhood.

“I am tired of all of the violence,” she said. “It just saddens me. … every time I hear a gunshot it’s like it hurts my heart. It reminds me of him over and over again.”
