OPELIKA, Ala. — Opelika Police say two people are dead following a shooting Saturday night.

Officers and the Opelika Fire Department responded to a shots fired call in the 400 block of Toomer Court, just off I-85, around 9:15 p.m. CDT. When the officers arrived, they found two people shot. 27-year-old Sedric Lewis from Opelika was pronounced dead on the scene. The other victim, 31-year-old Derris Harris from Lafayette, went to the East Alabama Medical Center, where he later died.

Details surrounding the shooting and what lead up to the murders are not clear at this time. Opelika Police say these murder investigations are ongoing. Both victims’ bodies have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences medical examiner’s office in Montgomery for autopsies.
