Victim, suspects identified in deadly Phenix City crash


PHENIX CITY, Ala. – A Columbus Police officer says a chase that started in Columbus ended in a crash around 7:30 p.m. EDT at the intersection of 13th St. and 17th Avenue. It appears two vehicles were involved. News 3 is working to learn more details about the suspect and victims involved in the crash.

“And then they had a wreck in Phenix City, and then there was at least one injury,” Columbus Police Lt. James Walton said. “But as far as how serious it was, or anything like that, I don’t have any idea.”

The Columbus Police Department Special Operations Unit and Phenix City Police are investigating the chase and the crash. About 15 law enforcement officer vehicles were stationed around the crash. Traffic had to be diverted down 17th Avenue for about an hour and a half. Stay with WRBL for continuing updates to this story.
