MONTGOMERY (WIAT) – Governor Kay Ivey on Tuesday unveiled the framework for her school safety initiative.
Members of the education and law enforcement communities and state legislators joined Ivey.
She announced her support for SB 323, which proposes funds for tech funds can be used for school security.
Ivey says they will enable schools to better identify and respond to situations that may emanate from a student in the school. She also announced today she is signing an executive order establishing a SAFE Council to continue work of 2016 school safety task force.
Ivey says the SAFE Council will look at all ideas to improve school safety.
Ivey also said she is asking lawmakers to focus the rest of the legislative session on securing our schools.
Reporter James McConatha will have a full report on the governor’s school safety initiative tonight on the evening news.
