Firefighters battle blaze at Phenix City building

Alabama

Phenix City, Al- New details on a fire in an unoccupied building that formerly housed a head start program in Phenix City.

According to Phenix City Fire Chief Kristin Kennedy, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but the roof of the building was fully engulfed. Smoke could be seen as far away as the Columbus Civic Center.

Kennedy tells News 3 what those in the community and surrounding businesses should expect once the blaze is fully extinguished.

“The roof should be completely gone. It’ll be an eye sore until it’s torn down,” says Kennedy. “That should be the next step. Once everybody goes through all the formalities that will hopefully be the next step to tear it down.”

Chief Kennedy adds that no firefighters were injured when they were battling the blaze.
