Columbus Lions Coach Jason Gibson doesn’t want to get too excited following his team’s 86-0 win over the Georgia Firebirds, but there are some phases of team’s play that can’t be overlooked, like quarterback Casey Kacz’s 210 yards passing and eight touchdown performance.
Most of those passes went to wide receiver Michael who had seven catches for 114 yards and three touchdowns.
Coach Gibson says the performance was a good way to open the season. “We’ve just got really good players. I’ve got really good players, I’ve got really good coaches. The thing about now is to try to make sure that we don’t believe we’re that good. That’s my job.” Said Gibson, “So it’s going to be a test. They’ve got some really good football players. We’ve got Myrtle Beach coming up. We’ve got the Florida Tarpons coming in town, coming here. So the competition continues to get better. So, it’s going to be a good season for us. But our expectations are high as they’ve always been for the last 10 years.”
Now the lions hit the road this weekend to take on the Central Florida Jags before returning home April 9th to battle the Atlanta Vultures. That game will be the start of a three game home stretch. Coach Gibson says his team will need to play well, especially on defense.
