DECATUR, Ga (CBS46) — Detectives say they believe a single bullet struck three people in a DeKalb County apartment complex late Tuesday night: a man, a woman and a four-month-old baby.

Police say the shooting happened at about 10:40 p.m. inside two different units at the Windrush apartment complex on Kensington Road near Decatur.

They say 23-year-old resident Derico Clark was handling a gun inside his apartment when he accidentally pulled the trigger and shot himself in the hand.

The bullet continued on and struck a 21 year-old woman in the leg, police say. The bullet then traveled through the wall and into a neighboring apartment where it struck the baby boy in the back.

The baby’s mother says her son is expected to make a full recovery. The bullet did not penetrate into any of his organs. It was lodged beneath his skin until a doctor was able to remove it.

“I’m mad as hell,” says the baby’s grandmother Willie Ushry.

Ushry says she had warned her neighbors to stop playing around with guns.

“And now they shot a baby,” she says.

Clark and the woman who was shot in the leg are both recovering from their wounds, police say. Clark will face a charge of reckless conduct in the case.
