ATHENS, Ga. (AP) – Police in Athens say a woman is dead after being struck by a train.

Local media reports say the fatal collision happened Thursday morning. Athens Clark-County police Capt. Mark Magnuson says the woman was walking on the railroad tracks shortly before 8 a.m. and did not move when the engineer of the approaching train blew its horn.

Magnuson says police are trying to determine whether the woman was struck by accident or if she intended for the train to hit her.

Magnuson says the woman lived in Athens, but her name was not immediately released.
