GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Divers are looking for a woman who was reported missing in a Georgia lake.
News outlets report that Hall County sheriff’s deputies and the county fire service were called to Lake Lanier shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday.
Authorities said a 31-year-old woman had jumped off a sailboat to go for a swim and the boat drifted away from her.
A man on the boat told authorities the woman was trying to swim back to the boat but became tired. He said he was unsuccessful in throwing her a rope. The man said he then went in the water but could not find her.
Bad weather forced divers out of the water late Sunday afternoon. They planned to resume the search Monday.
The woman’s name has not been released.
