Two people are dead following an early morning accident in Columbus.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirms to News 3 two people have been killed in an accident on J.R. Allen Parkway Access Road at Interstate 185 around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
We’re told 47-year-old Lee Edward Heath ran out of gas and pulled to the shoulder, but did not completely pull his Toyota Tundra off the roadway. Bryan says Heath then called for assistance.
Bryan confirms 32-year-old Anthony Lee Ryan Jensen stopped to help. Bryan says the two were putting gas into the vehicle when a Nissan sideswiped the stopped vehicle…hitting both people.
Bryan and investigators say the driver of the vehicle is in custody. His name is not being released at this time. Investigators say the driver is cooperating fully with police.
Investigators say this investigation is ongoing and so far no charges have been filed.
The north access ramp from J.R. to 185 is still blocked off.
