Mayor Jim Thornton, of LaGrange, was invited to the White House Wednesday to meet President Donald Trump.
Mayor Thornton is one of approximately 75 mayors from around the country that was invited.
According to the press release, the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the infrastructure needs of the nation’s cities, as the White House prepares to release its infrastructure bill.
The invitation was sent out last Thursday. The White House is calling this event “Mayors’ Day at the White House: A Conversation with President Trump.”
Mayor Thornton says it’s not every day you get an invitation to come to the White House to meet with the President.
The mayors will arrive at the White House at 2:00 p.m., meet with President Trump from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and then attend a reception with White House officials.
Mayor Thornton says he is excited to share LaGrange’s story with the President and his staff. He says he is excited the President wants to hear from city leaders.
