COLUMBUS, Ga. – Muscogee County sheriff candidate, Mark LaJoye has won his appeal after he was disqualified to run for office earlier this month.
News 3 spoke to LaJoye and he said his attorney received the order Thursday afternoon with the decision. He said it includes a lot of strong language requiring his name to be put on the ballot and taking down anything saying he is disqualified.
LaJoye says this has been a horrible experience and the system has been confusing and convoluted. LaJoye also stated that this is a very positive decision and it lifts a weight off his shoulders.
Three other candidates Pam Brown, Robert Smith, and Donna Tompkins were also disqualified by the Muscogee County Board of Elections.
LaJoye will take on current Sheriff John Darr.
