MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — Police say they have arrested a woman who struck and killed a pedestrian while fleeing a hit-and-run crash outside Atlanta. They say the woman then left the death scene by carjacking two drivers to make her getaway.

Police say the incident started around 6 a.m. when the suspect was involved in a hit-and-run crash on I-75 near I-575 in Cobb County. They say the woman continued on without stopping to the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Bells Ferry Road.

Cobb County Police Officer Alicia Chilton says the woman then drove up onto the sidewalk off Cobb Parkway and crashed her vehicle into the pedestrian.

Chilton says after that, the woman carjacked one motorist, continued south and then carjacked a second driver.

Chilton says she made it to the heart of Atlanta, where she crashed the stolen car she was driving into a fence in front of a building on Ponce De Leon Avenue. She apparently then to escape on foot with a gun.

Chilton says she tried to steal another car before Atlanta police took her down at a Publix in front of the Majestic Diner.
