City of LaGrange crews and dignitaries honored Arbor Day by planting a tree at the site of Southbend Park.

Southbend Park will include the city’s Skate Plaza.

The City of LaGrange plans to plant much more vegetation in area in the coming months.

The City of LaGrange has celebrated the annual Arbor Day event for more than ten years.

“Throughout the City of LaGrange hundreds of trees have been planted in observance of this event,” said City of LaGrange Community Development Director Alton West.

“The City has been recognized as a Tree City USA for the last 17 years. We are proud to celebrate this important day.”

“It is great to be able to add these trees to beautify the south end of downtown,” said Senior Planner Leigh Threadgill.

“Especially when it’s alongside a new park that will enhance the quality of life here in LaGrange.”

The Callaway Foundation recently announced its plans for Southbend Park, the area where the tree is planted. It will include a dog park, a playground, play field, as well as the city’s skate plaza.
