Suspect caught after 2 officers shot during North Georgia traffic stop

UPDATE:

11:00 P.M. — A suspect is in custody after two police officers were shot during a traffic stop in Lavonia, GA.

The suspect, 22-year-old Khari Anthony Dashaun Gordon, was captured sometime after 11:00 p.m., according to police at the scene.

Gordon will be charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, two counts of Attempted Murder, and one count of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

He was found in the woods about 2 miles from the scene of the shooting.

LAVONIA, Ga. (WSPA) – Two police officers were shot during a traffic stop in Lavonia, Georgia and the suspect is still on the loose.

According to Lavonia Chief Bruce Carlisle, one officer was shot in the shoulder and the other was shot in the hand and leg.

According to Greenville County dispatch, Greenville resident Khari Anthony Dashaun Gordon is wanted in connection with the shooting.

Gordon is out on bond for an attempted murder charge in Greenville County.

The officers were arresting the driver after pulling over a stolen car when the shooting happened, according to Chief Carlisle.

Both officers are being taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for their injuries.

St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital is on lockdown due to the search for the suspect.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia Highway Patrol, and the FBI are assisting in the investigation.
