PrepZone Preview Week 5

We have reached week 5 of the high school football season and once again the WRBL Sports Team is here to break down some of the biggest matchups of the week.

Dougherty (0-3) at Carver (3-0) - Corey Joyner leads his new team, the undefeated Carver Tigers, against his winless, former team, the Dougherty Trojans in a Region 1-4A matchup. Carver has won all 3 of their games by 7 points or less, including last week's 27-21 win over Hardaway. Carver is in the middle of a stretch of 6 games inside the city of Columbus, they won't travel outside Muscogee County until October 5th, at Cairo.

Hawkinsville (1-2) at Schley County (2-1) - Schley County enters Region 4-1A East play at home vs. Hawkinsville. Schley has bounced back after their opening week loss to Marion County by blowing out Calhoun County on the road, and knocking off 2A Spencer in a thriller at home last week. A tough stretch awaits the Wildcats after this Friday, with road games vs Dooly County and Taylor County sandwiched around a bye week in the next 3 weeks. That makes this game, which they should win, a pratical must win if the Wildcats want to be a part of the Region 4-1A title conversation.

Tailgate Game of the Week: Callaway (3-0) at Troup (3-0) - Troup County rivals and Top 10 teams battle at Callaway Stadium. This is the first matchup between the Cavaliers and Tigers since 2015, a 42-24 Callaway win in Tanner Glisson's first season. This week, at time of recording, Callaway comes in at #2 in 2A and Troup #9 in 4A.
