It’s rivalry week for two Columbus high school teams. The Heritage Bowl, a rivalry created by proximity.
Spencer and Carver are separated by less than 6 miles. Their fist meeting was back in 1962
Carver owns a 17 game winning streak in the series dating back to 1999. But in 2015, Spencer enjoyed their first winning season in more than 30 years.
The Greenwave want to prove they are more than a one-hit wonder. 2nd year head coach Pierre Coffey says it’s monumental having 22 seniors back who understand his system.
And they’re hoping to make more school history on Friday against Carver.
“They’re still loaded with talent. The name of the game is finishing. We got to go and we got to finish what we started last year. We need to play four complete quarters,” says Coffey.
He’s talking about last year’s match-up against Carver where they had the ball game until the final quarter.
The game is this friday at Memorial Stadium and it is our Friday night tailgate game of the week.
