BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Birmingham school bus driver is under investigation for allegedly keeping kids on board in the Hillman Estate Community in Southwest Birmingham.
CBS 42 reached out to Birmingham City Schools and was told the allegation is against a bus driver who did not allow students to exit the bus due to trash and was forcing them to clean up.
Cell phone video shows the chaotic scene of Oxmoor Valley students crying and frantically pleading to get off the bus.
“Those children were screaming and crying the video will show you. Those children were emotionally scarred,” says Walt Wilson. Wilson reported the incident to the police. Once Birmingham police arrived, students were let off the bus.
Officials with Birmingham City School released this statement, “Birmingham City Schools administration received notification of an incident that occurred on a bus carrying Oxmoor Valley students this afternoon after school dismissal. The administration launched an immediate investigation into the incident and will take appropriate action, pending investigation findings. In the interim, district administrators will be reaching out to parents of students on the bus. Birmingham City Schools considers student safety and security its highest priority, and the district is fully committed to taking the necessary steps to protect students and staff.”
