NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Country music firebrand Charlie Daniels has died of a stroke at 83; had hit with “Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Daniels was a Southern Rock icon who played to sold-out crowds across the world. He was at his peak in the 1970s, but continued to record and tour late into life.
