5 dead including 2 kids in accident on U.S. Highway 80

UPDATE:

3:05 p.m. — Investigators at the scene tell News 3 that three adults and two children died in the accident on U.S. Highway 80 this morning.

All five are from Albany, Louisiana and Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. says 58-year-old Judy Madere, 58-year-old Trudy Herbert, 32-year-old Carrie Jones and her two kids 7-year-old Trinity Jones and 4-year-old Jackson Jones were all killed in the crash.

ALEA says the accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 80 past mile marker 207 approximately 10 miles west of Phenix City.

Witnesses say a tractor trailer and an SUV hit head-on. The driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries.


RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala — State troopers confirm a serious wreck on U.S. Highway 80 at Jowers Road.

An Alabama Law Enforcement Agency representative says the accident happened between an tractor trailer and a small SUV just outside the East Alabama Motor Speedway.

Viewers say traffic is being blocked on the westbound side of Highway 80 starting at Old Crawford Highway.

ALEA Sargent Steve Jarrett confirms multiple fatalities in the accident.
