HURRICANE MICHAEL: Category 1 now and expected to strengthen into a major hurricane

7 Day Forecast

HURRICANE MICHAEL: Category 1 but expected to become a major category 3 before it makes landfall. We will have the latest on News 3 and at WRBL UPDATES

Hurricane Michael (Subject to change but best timing for now):

Expected landfall near PC Beach: (NHC) 1:00PM-(RPM Model) 5PM Wednesday.  A strong category 2 or weak 3. 115-120mph winds, with 140mph gusts.

WRBL COLUMBUS Viewing area:

First outer bands will impact east central Alabama and West central Georgia Wednesday around 11AM ET, with winds picking up under 40mph.

40+mph winds across our Columbus, Eufaula, Phenix City, Buena Vista to Americus south line. These will bring-in damaging winds.

Brief torrential rainfall and strong wind gusts with the most significant bands Wednesday afternoon around 5pm.

Right now the trajectory is less likely for tornadoes but any west movement of the track will increase our tornado risk.

Midnight Wednesday until 6AM Thursday morning:

Tropical Storm Warnings: Clay, Quitman, and Randolph Counties.  Tropical Storm Force winds 40+ mph.

Wednesday Night Thursday morning:

Hurricane Watch: Clay, Quitman, and Randolph Counties.  Hurricane force winds 60+ mph.

*Remember…This is all subject to change, this is the best analysis until the hurricane lifts northward over the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
