ATLANTA, Ga (AP) — The latest national report on the drought shows extreme drought conditions are now being felt in the city of Atlanta and more of its suburbs. Recent rains have eased dry conditions in some parts of Georgia but not others.
The U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday shows extreme drought conditions have now spread into the city of Atlanta and many of its northern and northwest suburbs, including nearly all of Cobb County and most of Cherokee County. Extreme drought conditions also exist in many of Atlanta’s southern suburbs.
Extreme drought conditions are also prevalent in northwest Georgia.
The report says some rain in northeast Georgia led to a slight improvement in drought conditions in some counties. However, little or no rain fell in the main areas of Georgia’s drought.
