WEATHER AWARE: Staying safe during severe weather

Weather

Now that we know there is a set-up and potential for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, it is important to have a game plan.

Mobile homes are NOT safe to be in when we expect winds this strong or the possibility of a tornado. Sawyer’s Mobile Home Estate in Smiths Station fortunately has a storm shelter for their residents to come in when severe weather like this is expected. These are great because they have strong concrete walls, are actually below the ground and do not have any windows that could break.

The strongest storms move in late tonight through 3 a.m. edt – right when many people are asleep.

So if you live in mobile home park and do not have a storm shelter – now is the time to find somewhere safe to go! Call a friend, neighbor or family member to see if there is a house or sturdy building you can spend the night in.

For those of you in homes or apartments – if you have a garage or carport, park your cars there tonight. If you don’t, avoid parking under trees as 60 mph wind gusts will take down small limbs and branches.
